What's in the name?
Since the beginning, we were deeply inspired by one of Confucius's most renowned teachings:
If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person, there will be harmony in the house.
If there is harmony in the house, there will be virtue in the nation.
And if there is virtue in the nation, there will be peace in the world.
Confucius believed world peace begins with the enlightenment of the soul, a philosophy PEACE has closely aligned itself with. So, we wanted our flagship publication to somehow allude to this brilliant adage. Originally, we were juggling around names like "Candle," "Kindle," and "Spark." But, besides being painfully cliché, those names didn't reflect our mission of promoting peace in East Asia. That's when we thought of "Lantern." Not only are lanterns a common feature in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cultures alike, they sybolized life, prosperity, and, most importantly, peace. The rest is history. We hope Lantern can shine a little light into the souls of our viewers and thereby promote peace in the world.
